ABOUT GEORGE FOUNDATION OF THE ARTS

About
Us

The George Foundation of the Arts is a registered non-profit company
and public-benefit organisation which was founded in 2023 to provide training, support and performance opportunities to children and youth of all communities of the greater George region of the Western Cape.

The Foundation’s activities incorporate three interrelated services:

-It secures funding and donations to implement training opportunities in the arts, culminating in awarding scholarships to deserving young artists and musicians;
- By developing networks and feeder-systems for youth development in the disciplines of dance, drama, creative writing, visual art as well as vocal andinstrumental music;
- By presenting quality performance opportunities such as eisteddfods, competitions, exhibitions, concert tours and stage productions for its beneficiaries to display their talent, skills and growth.

During 2023 the Foundation successfully revived and presented the George Eisteddfod (in its traditional pre-Covid format), showcasing the talent of approximately 600 children and youth (grades AA to 12) from various schools and communities in George. In 2024, with the introduction of dance and special needs, more than 1000 entries were received. We look forward to our 2025 edition, which will be our biggest ever!

ABOUT THE MUSIC DEPARTMENT

Our music department is passionate about providing a strong foundation in music grounded

in technique, rehearsal, assessment and performance. This is achieved through training,

lessons, supply of instruments and creation of performance opportunities like our

Eisteddfod.

Our dance department celebrates the art of movement by providing a platform for dancers to showcase their talent and passion. Through dynamic performances, adjudicated competitions, and creative choreography, we honor the diversity and beauty of dance in all its forms.

ABOUT THE DANCE DEPARTMENT

Young actors develop holistic-and-screenplay writing, dramatised and undramatised presentations, as well as improvised scene-creation abilities.

ABOUT THE DRAMA DEPARTMENT

Our Visual Arts division showcases several genres focussing not only on traditional painting, drawing, sculpture and ethnic art, but on technological genres which include design, robotics, film-making and AI generated forms.
